Shakti
Who is Shakti?:
Wikipedia: Shakti is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe in Hinduism. Shakti is the concept, or personification, of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as ‘The Great Divine Mother” in Hinduism. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity/fertility, though it is also present in males in its potential, unmanifest form.
Not only is Shakti responsible for creation, it is also the agent of all change. Shakti is cosmic existence as well as liberation, its most significant form being the Kundalini Shakti, a mysterious psycho-spiritual force. Shakti exists in a state of svātantrya, dependence on no one, being interdependent with the entire universe.
Name Meaning:
Shakti means “power” or “empowerment” and is the personification of feminine creative power.
Who Worships the Goddess:
In Shaktism and Shaivism, Shakti is worshipped as the Supreme Being. Shakti embodies the active feminine energy of Shiva and is identified as Mahadevi or Parvati.
Fun Fact:
All interpretations of Shakti hold common one thing in common: power. Shakti means power, force and feminine energy. She represents the creative feminine divinity of every being and every thing. Devotees believe that the entire universe is a manifestation of Shakti, who is also known by Devi, from the Sanskrit root “div” which means to shine.
Urban Dictionary:
In Hinduism Shakti is defined as (1) Power (2) Absolute Power and (3) Power of the Goddess. In rare instances when a Hindu Order gives someone a “Hindu name” and the first name is Shakti, the Shakti doubles as a noun meaning: “The Power Of”.
Shakti as a noun: A cheetah has the Shakti (power) of speed. An bird has the Shakti (power) or flight.
Shakti as a name: A perfect example is the Hindu Satuguru Shakti Ganapati Subramanian. His name would translate to:
(1) Power of the Goddess
(2) Power of Ganapati aka Ganesha who removes obstacles on the spiritual path
(3) Power of Subramanian who bestows knowledge through lively debate
